The ER is not that bad

We were in the ER tonight. Louie had a febrile seizure. It was a short one, but it felt like ten years. I was already in my night gown getting ready for bed. I was finishing all the little things that have to be done at night. I looked in my room to check on Louie and he was toppled over breathing ragged. I went to him and he was stiff and non responsive. I told Sean that Louie was having a seizure and to get dressed. Again I was wearing a night gown. So I threw on the  first 2 things I grabbed and ran out to the car. We live a mile from the hospital so we just drove. I should have driven though because I would have gotten there faster.

Anyway he is going to be fine. The only risk is that if he has another fever he might have another one. But he will out grow them.

Poor Sean cannot handle this stuff. I knew what it was right away. I knew it wasn't that big of a deal because of  a blogger I read. Her daughter had the same thing a while back. Only she had the more serious kind that lasts for more than 5 minutes.

I kept crying because even though I knew he was going to be ok it was scary. The nurse kept coming in every time a tear would roll down my cheek. She told me that her son had one and it was scary for her too. Then she told me to give him as many Popsicles as he can eat, Because they taste good. Our hospital has really great nurses. Its the hospital I gave birth to Louie at. Every nurse I have delt with has been wonderful.

So our day tomorrow will be filled with tylenol, ibprofen, amoxicillin, and popcicles. Right after my Dr appt. After this I am really going to need my meds.

I think maybe I should get the nurses one of these

Seeing as how they had to check Louie twice

Too bad I can't drink any more. Time to go buy a cake.

  1. I am glad he's OK.
Seizures are scary. My daughter had childhood epilepsy and had complex partial seizures and I had no idea what they were at first. The seizures lasted about 5 minutes, but she couldn't talk for about an hour afterwards.
    That's a funny cake.

    1. I cannot imagine how that bad was. He was out of it for at least 30 mins after. Thank you for commenting. It makes me feel better :)

  2. So glad it's nothing serious and he's okay. I think ER's are so stressful even when it ISN'T anything serious.

    1. it wasn't too bad. We were in and out in under 2 hours. But it was scary for me because Louie was having trouble breathing.

  3. That's a little gross! LOL Glad he's OK. We've had lots of ER visits. Some good, some not so good. May the rest of your week be a little more boring. :-)

    1. Yes that's the best thing about this. He is fine. It was the best ER visit I've had so far. Carmen kept asking if she was going to get pokes. And the nurse asked Louie if he wanted a Popsicle and Carmen chimed in "YES" so she was pretty happy about that.
